Last week, the Kigali Children’s Peace Library welcomed Primary Two (P2) learners for an engaging and interactive read-aloud session that combined the joy of storytelling with the use of digital technology. Using the library’s Smart TV, the children gathered to read and explore the inspiring storybook “The Turtle and Rabbit’s Big Race.”
The digital read-aloud session created an exciting learning environment where children actively listened, observed illustrations on the screen, and participated in discussions throughout the story. The use of digital tools not only enhanced the reading experience but also encouraged greater participation, curiosity, and enthusiasm among the young learners.
As the story unfolded, the children followed the journey of the turtle and the rabbit, discovering valuable lessons about perseverance, patience, and determination. Through guided discussions, facilitators helped the learners reflect on the characters’ choices and connect the story’s message to their own everyday experiences.
One of the key lessons highlighted during the session was the importance of facing challenges with courage and determination. The children learned that success is not always about being the fastest or strongest, but about remaining focused, working hard, and refusing to give up when difficulties arise. They also explored how peaceful problem-solving, respect for others, and resilience can help overcome obstacles both in school and in daily life.
Beyond promoting literacy, the read-aloud session strengthened essential life skills such as critical thinking, active listening, communication, and empathy. The interactive discussions encouraged the children to express their ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another in a safe and supportive environment.
At the Kigali Children’s Peace Library, storytelling remains a powerful tool for nurturing a culture of peace while fostering a lifelong love for reading. By integrating digital learning resources such as Smart TVs into literacy activities, the library continues to create engaging educational experiences that inspire children to become confident readers, creative thinkers, and compassionate members of their communities.
The Transformational Leadership Center remains committed to providing innovative learning opportunities that empower children with knowledge, values, and life skills that will help them grow into responsible, resilient, and peace-loving future leaders.
